pure bliss.....

That's right peeps.... pure bliss....
FALL BREAK! :)

1 day left on the big giveaway - have you entered yet?

I have been updating and posting a few things this week. It's always easier to get it done when I have time off. Being a mom and a teacher can be tough some days! Heck, most days! But....
Here is what I've been working on so far. :)
Journals - up for free for a few more hours! I know we are already into October.... but I couldn't resist making a cute journal pack to work on when we go back next week!

 Nikki at Melonheadz finished up my Wild West peeps... aren't they cute! I love Nikki! Writing these non-fiction passages and comprehension questions.... not looking forward to it.... I have a few done, but it will be my fall break project.... {yay me}

Then, there is my costume confusion.... I love writing these inference ones! They are so much fun! {And my daughter loves testing them out for me when I'm almost finished...}

I uploaded my BIG 'ol BUNDLE of Famous Americans.... It is basically most of my Americans in one place. Please click on the picture to download the pdf preview... it is too large to upload to tpt. BUMMER.
Last is a picture of my landforms posters and vocabulary pocket cards. I uploaded this one a while ago, but I finally got the previews finished. I am working on updating my landform pack to add the peninsula and bay...

Free Civil War apps!

Who likes free?
Me! Me! :)
I was doing some research last night... my 5th graders are learning about the Civil War. It has been
 A LONG time
since I learned about the Civil War. We also happen to live in a state that has some Civil War history - which makes this ten times cooler {for me anyway.... }

I was planning on using Google Earth to zoom into some of the battlefield sites so they could gain some  perspective.... where the battles happened... terrain... proximity to important cities or military outposts...
since we can't actually go and see any of these things IRL...
I started looking through the app store...
there are a heck of a lot of games about the civil war - which might be interesting to play after we have done some research....

But. Then. I. Found. Free. Apps!
Free battlefield apps -
with maps
lists of generals and militia
timelines
AND
videos and photographs!
JACKPOT!
These apps are all affiliated with civilwar.org
This is a Civil War Trust trying to preserve acres of battlefields.

I went a *little* crazy. Here is a picture of my phone after downloading - oh.... 15 apps or so...
:D

I was up until at least midnight last night touring Gettysburg.
Warning - Some of the pictures are graphic - they show dead soldiers on the battlefields, horses, houses that had been attacked... full of primary sources!
{interviews, first hand accounts, pictures}
SO PLEASE - PREVIEW!

Okay - Ready for the bad news?
They are only on the iPhone right now.
:(
BUT - if you have a VGA cable - you can hook your iPhone to your projector... and TADA - everyone can see! :)

There is ONE app for the iPad... I am in the process of downloading and installing now.

The Gettysburg app had a tour that needed to be downloaded (these are originally meant to be walking tour guides...)
But I went ahead and downloaded all the information so that I could wander blissfully through the app.
{DORK}

Okay - so - if you grab these - let me know what you think! So far I am pretty amazed at the quality since it is free.... jus' my two cents. :)

What other resources do I NEED for teaching Civil War? Anything you use and love? Help a girl out! I've spent most of my teaching career in first and second - so I'm at the edge of my comfort zone here! :)

OH MAN -
I almost posted without including links! Whew, so happy I caught that! :)

YES  - I am missing a few battles... I am working on adding those now! :)
There is one I would really like - Love Letters from the Civil War - could it be any more romantic! :)
Maybe another day! ;)
Have a great night!

Just One of Those Days...

Hello friends... :)
Today was one of those, no good, very bad, pretty awful days...
I get them every once in a while... You?

I wanted to stay in bed  - all day - but I couldn't :(
So - I snuggled with my babies and played with bear
(my schnoodle - he's been at the kennel for a few days).

I *thought* the kids movie was at 10 am.... but it wasn't...
So I put some pretty shoes on and did my make-up ...
(for those of you who hate feet - sorry... these shoes are fabulous!)
So Deal... :)
and took the kids to see Monsters University.
I didn't get to see very much of it.
(There was this really annoying little boy who kept trying to drink all my Coke...)
oh - wait - that was MY little boy.
Darn.

THEN
we went to the grocery store.
BIG MISTAKE.
two kids
one mom
grocery store

If you are a mom - you know how bad that can get...
(it wasn't pretty)
I made my 8 almost 9 year old ride in the back of the cart
you feeling me?
yeah.
I walked out praying to God that these three hours between the grocery store and bed time went REALLY fast... like add some wings and stuff....

I am currently consuming large amounts of milk chocolate with hazelnuts...
and I think my smile will return shortly.
The make-up and shoes bit helped... albeit temporarily.
Anyone else a shoe person?
Chocolate?
:)

hey!
WAIT! I did manage to upload something to tpt today!
all the cool kids were doing it!
 - I made a bundle...
It's a pick your own bundle!
Pick any three of my non-fiction units!
AND I added Annie Oakley!
Maybe I'm not doing SO bad... :)
